Via Vecchia Annual Grape Crush

If you don't know about Via Vecchia Winery (it was featured in National Geographic's online segment of the top 10 places to visit in the fall when Columbus, Ohio made the list) then you soon will because of its sheer talent when it comes to making wine and it's amazing new venue nestled in the heart of the Brewery District Downtown. I had the distinct honor of seeing and photographing their wine-making process at Via Vecchia's Annual Grape Crush this past weekend. The room was so alive and bustling as the wine was literally being hand crafted. Volunteers, future brides of the venue and the winery's proud owners and families all pitched in. One by one, huge 7.5-8' diameter and about 5' tall plastic drums were filled with the juice being crushed by the grape crusher. There were also stations on hand for people to experience what it feels like to crush grapes with your feet.

There's no other way to say it- the wine that comes from this winery is exquisite. Each bottle has a number from the batch it was from, much in the same way limited edition print artworks are numbered. And artwork it is. If you'd like to try some for yourself, their wines are available at Whole Foods.

For those of you who had your picture taken by me at the event, please write me a quick note at thejessicamillerphotos@gmail.com for your photos.

Chris and Kylie- Married!

I love artists! Kylie is just that. She designed every little detail of this beautiful Dayton wedding and it showed! It was a beautiful church with warm summer light beaming through the stained glass. After, the wedding reception was held at the Dayton Art Institute and was both intimate and grand at the same time. Congrats to Kylie and Chris!

BLUSH

One of the most rewarding aspects of being a photographer is meeting amazing people and being able to call them friends at the end of the day. Christina is one of those people. If you don't know her, she is the mastermind behind BLUSH artistry by Nina. And I highly suggest you do everything within your power to get to know her. She has talents that far surpass any I've ever seen. I did the photography for her wedding a few years back and it was a fantastic day filled with laughter and love. We kept in touch and after seeing a few of my brides use her for their makeup and beauty for their weddings, I decided to use her as well for my wedding- but I remained skeptical. I have had my makeup done a few times at local salon-spa type places, and I hated the way I looked each time. This was not the best feeling knowing I was getting married and was going to need to get makeup done (because I'm not even going to pretend I know how to put it on). I pretty much had trust in no one. Christina came over one week night and I told her this- not meaning to give her any more pressure or anything. First off, i will say this- it's fun to hang out with Christina. She has a vibrant and calming personality. And secondly- it's fun to get your makeup done. What I didn't expect at the end of this "test run" was what I saw in the mirror when she was done. My skin looked flawless. Gone were the salon disco eyes i got from everyone else who had attempted my makeup in the past. I literaly took my breath away when I saw my reflection. At that point, I had made another checkmark off my emotional wedding day planning- and I knew I could trust in her to make me beautiful. And beautiful she made me. But, alas- I will save that for another post where I'll talk to her one-on-one so you get a feel for who she is and what she stands for. THIS project, that I've been seriously excited to post about for the last month is what I'm here to talk about. BLUSH has recently re-vamped itself with a new website and I was hired to photograph a lot of the websites' pictures. With our stunningly beautiful subject Allison, I believe we captured the essence of how talented Christina is. Please check out her website at http://blushartistrybynina.com. I also designed her new logo! I just can't tell you how proud I am to be part of such an unbelievable project.

Beth and Louie

You might remember Beth from a blog earlier this year- We did a one-on-one dress photo shoot for her wedding this September. It was so much fun to watch these two interact. They are so laid back, cute and they always know how to get a smile out of each other. Enjoy! XO Jess

Defining Love

The definitions of LOVE are limitless, as it's an emotion- a sense of being. Very frequently, it is not serious. It is not defined as a certain way of being. It is who you are- it is who they are- it is you together. This has no pre-conceived notion. No expectations to live up to. It is my goal as a photographer that meets very frequently with people who are in love, to capture their story. To capture the depth of that relationship in an unspoken format. Whether it be a spiritually deep connectedness that shows through, or a light-hearted silliness, it is important to me to represent the people I photograph and the complexities of each relationship. Being in front of the camera can sometimes cause people to feel like they need to live up to some unspoken expectation they put on themselves. I know that's the way I felt when I had my wedding pictures taken. It is easy to beat up on yourself for not meeting your own expectations, however- as a photographer- I believe that's where the beauty lies. That genuine smile- the quiet togetherness, the fun ways of making each-other laugh unexpectedly. I get to capture that. I get to preserve those authentic moments. It's a beautiful way of representing who you are as people, as a couple and as two people in love, whatever your definition may be.  It's less robotic and less perfect- but it is sincere. It is a more honest representation. And quite simply put, it is beautiful.
